Fancy yarns

A fancy yarn is a textile yarn structure with virtually unlimited pattern designs. Generally, the yarn structure comprises a basic yarn, effect yarns producing regularities or irregularities in the yarn structure and a binder yarn to fix the basic and effect yarns. Fancy yarns are mainly used in hand and machine knitting yarns, fashionable ladies' wear and home textiles.

Thread Effects in Fancy Yarns

Hollow spindle system

The hollow spindle process is a direct twisting process with a very high production output.
A hollow spindle with binder yarn is arranged between two roller systems. A twist hook which works according to the hollow spindle principle imparts the twists, i.e. in one direction Z-twist and in the other direction S-twist.

At the clamping points of the two rollers the yarn has no twists, independent of the distance of the twist hook to the feed or front roller. The binder yarn runs parallel to the basic and effect threads to the twist hook and wraps around the formed effect. The hollow spindle speed corresponds to the number of wrappings. Basic and effect threads are twistless. Particularly with high twists, the final product is not balanced and in rare cases a steaming process might be required. Sometimes this character is highly desired for example if the intended use lies in the upholstery field. The further developed hollow spindle fancy twister EHP 2 is equipped with a separately driven twist hook which can be set with a different speed to the hollow spindle. Thus you can combine the advantage of narrow twisting-in of the effect by the twist hook with a less strong binding by the binder yarn. With the EHP 2 you can produce voluminous and balanced fancy yarns which do absolutely bear comparison with fancy yarns obtained in a two-step process. The advantage is the high spindle speed of 30,000 rpm for the twist hook and 22,000 rpm for the hollow spindle. The final product is a ready-for-sale fancy yarn package without the need of a rewinding process.
